The Pyrometer is the most important gauge a turbocharged diesel engine can have. Pyrometer readings allow the operator to constantly monitor the engines "safe zone" of operation. The exhaust temperatures are monitored with a probe inserted into the exhaust flow. Pre-turbo temperatures of 300° F to 1200° F will be normal working levels. Temperatures above these levels can only be reached for very short times ( 10 - 20 seconds ) or engine damage can result.

| Another area the pyro can help save you money is the turbo life expectancy. If you let the pyro cool to 300 degrees before you shut your rig down you can extend the life of your turbo dramatically. | ||||||||||||||||||

| Monitoring your fuel pressure can be an important diagnostic tool and potentially save you money. For high horsepower applications, knowing that your fuel delivery system is up to the task can mean getting that few extra horsepower, or the difference between winning and loosing. A common cause of failures on today's modern electronic diesel injection pumps, is low fuel pressure. Being able to diagnose a bad fuel pump or clogged fuel system, can save thousands of dollars in costly repairs. | ||||||||||||||||||

The Transmission Temperature gauge lets you know the current temperature of the transmission fluid as you drive. The cooler the fluid, the longer your transmission should last. Insufficient transmission cooling can cause premature wear or complete transmission failure. Transmission temperatures will vary depending on the location the temp sender is mounted. Learn how transmission temperatures change under different driving conditions, and know what the maximum transmission temperature is for your sender mounting location.
